HD4PNBAG20B Adjustable Gain Amplifier |

The High Definition 20dB Adjustable Gain Amplifier (HD4PNBAG20B) is a 4-Port, general purpose high gain amplifier that can be used in residential, commercial, and SMATV systems. The losses associated with long cable runs, taps, splitters and multi-switches can significantly reduce signal strength throughout an installation. The HD4PNBAG20B adjustable gain amplifier can be used to accurately tune each of the four system channels for maximum C/N ratio with precise gain control when setting drive levels to various devices. The amplifier is designed to recover signals that can be as low as -75dBm. With this capability of detecting very weak signals, longer cable runs may be used before amplification is needed. Use of additional amplifiers may also be reduced or eliminated entirely. The HD4PNBAG20B has internal DC blocking capacitors on all input and output ports, eliminating the need and cost for external capacitors. These design features help reduce the cost and complexity of any system installation. HDTV Labs products are all designed for easy installation. Mounting brackets make it easy to secure the devices to walls or flat surfaces. Wide spacing of the "F" connectors makes attaching or removing cabling to the devices a simple procedure. Although meant for indoor use, the device is built with a Professional-Grade rugged aluminum housing and corrosion resistant connectors to extend the life of the product. An external 12VDC power supply is included with the amplifier. One thing to note about this device is its exceptionally wide input level range of -20dBm to -75dBm. Hitting the desired input window of a multi-switch or receiver is much easier to achieve when the input range of the amplifier can overcome large variations in cable length and device losses, and still recover the desired signal. The 20dB Adjustable Gain Amplifier adds greater flexibility to the entire system. The ability to detect very weak input signals is an obvious advantage to the commercial installation as it allows more cabling in the system before signal loss becomes an issue. On the other hand, installers actually risk over-driving the amplifier if a typically strong signal is applied at the input. If poor C/N ratio is seen at the output of the amplifier, it is being over-driven and the installer must reduce the input power for it to work correctly. Proper output signals should be checked with a meter to prevent over-driving any of the system's four channels. The HD4PNBAG20B amplifier has a gain/slope network built into each of its four channels. As system channel frequencies increase, so do the losses associated with that channel. The gain/slope circuitry essentially keeps the output signal at a constant level across all frequencies by applying more gain at the higher frequency channels and less gain at the lower frequency channels. Each of the four channels has a 20-turn potentiometer for precise gain control. Adjusting the tuning screw clockwise will increase the gain, counter-clockwise will reduce the gain. It is normal that the gain adjustment changes more slowly at the lower end, it is not a linear device. There is no stop on either end of the four potentiometers as this is a built-in safety feature to prevent them from breaking. Installation cost and complexity are reduced in systems using the HD4PNBAG20B Adjustable Gain Amplifier, saving both time and money. All HDTV Labs products are designed and manufactured in the USA. |
